When you’ve been charged with a crime and the might and resources of the government comes crashing down against you, you want someone on your side who will work longer and harder than the prosecution to make sure you get the representation you deserve. Robert believes that this is the minimum expectation that anyone should have of their lawyer and will work tirelessly to make sure that you receive nothing less.

Going through the criminal process is difficult and stressful. Working with your lawyer shouldn’t be. The foundation for any good defence is a strong and trusting relationship between lawyer and client. Robert prides himself on being accessible to clients and working with them regularly to ensure that they remain informed and up to date every step of the way. The best defence needs all of the facts, and it’s only through effective two-way communication that this can be achieved.

Unfortunately, in the present era of the internet and instantaneous news, the court of public opinion has often reached their own verdict of guilt from the very first moment the charge is laid. This flies in the face of a founding principle of our criminal justice system in Canada, the presumption of innocence, often expressed by the statement ‘innocent until proven guilty’. The only way to make meaningful this fundamental tenet when faced with the full prosecutorial might and resources of the government is to be willing to explore every avenue of defence, no matter how unpopular or ‘technical’. Robert believes that everyone, no matter what the charge, is entitled to make full use of every legal defence at their disposal and will never hesitate to advance a client’s case on the grounds that the public would find it distasteful or a ‘mere technicality’.
